Avocado Hummus

avocado hummus

Out of everything I have ever made, this is the recipe I get asked for the most. For years, people have been asking me for my avocado hummus recipe. So, here it is folks!

Creamy and rich in flavor, this avocado hummus is sure to be a hit at your next party.

The avocado compliments the zest and deep flavor of the tahini. Tahini is a ground sesame seed paste, similar to peanut butter. It is a creamy, oily, and smooth nut butter rich in calcium. The key to good hummus is to let the flavor of chickpeas to not be overwhelmed by the lemon and garlic, and this recipe has just the right balance.

I bought a food processor, and I am in love with it! For years, I have been making this hummus in my blender. After my blender started to smell while making hummus the last time, I decided it would be best to invest in a food processor. If you saw how much salsa and hummus my husband ate, you would say it was about time!

I am in love with my Cuisinart Elite Collection 12-Cup Food Processor.

It felt like an early Christmas present, but we actually used the last of our wedding gift cards and only spent $20. Score! When it comes to investing in kitchen equipment, I do my research. I want good quality appliances that will last a long time, which means I have expensive taste. I spent months researching and going in stores to compare. The Cuisinart Elite Collection 12-Cup Food Processor was my favorite by far.

We love hummus. Correction… I love hummus, Ryan is addicted.

When I make this avocado hummus recipe, I always double or triple it. This avocado hummus recipe makes enough for a small bowl, perfect for a party. If you making this for a large party or for your a hummus addicted spouse – definitely double or triple it.

Why do we love hummus so much? In a world full of easy junk food, our busy schedules appreciate easy health food. We always have hummus in the fridge! Remember how I said this is perfect for a party? SERIOUSLY.  I hate going to a party and finding there is nothing but cookies, cake, and potato chips! I finally decided I would always take food I actually want to eat to parties, which means I can always count on one healthy option when my stomach starts to rumble.

Ryan loves to eat this with tortilla chips or in a wrap, while I think it pairs perfect with carrots or rice crackers.

Oh pleeeeaaaasssseeeeeee do not forget the cilantro when you make this! I have made this recipe close to a hundred times, so I like to think I have it perfected.

Forgetting the cilantro would be a detrimental mistake. Trust me. Been there, done that. Same goes with the tahini. If you don’t have it, wait until you can find it. The combination of tahini, avocado, citrus, garlic, and cilantro is what makes this hummus stand out from the rest.

My favorite way to serve this recipe is to place the avocado seed in the middle, which prevents it from browning, top it with fresh chopped cilantro and any leftover garbanzo beans. It just makes it look so deee-lish!
